Manoeuvring & not moving

Catching up on the blogs today I noticed Mike from nb “Rose of Arden” wrote this excellent blog post about his boating experiences, with Trial & Error as passengers. Mike also administers a “Financial Health Warning” with ref to the boating money pit…

Personally I’d rather have a pit full of money, but never mind you can’t have everything. Which leaves boating all about choice, or taking a chance, or not bothering at all – and getting on with it…

OR there’s the other kind of “boater” who does all three & doesn’t get on with it. At this point I hear you asking yourself what the hek’s she prattling on about…?

Well it goes like this, (someone who I didn’t know personally), but couldn’t make up their mind. Over a period of about 10 years they started off with a Tupperware boat. Then acquired a motorhome, then another one (that’s 2), bought several cars including a Mercedes, then bought a narrowboat to live aboard forevermore…

The latter moved from it’s mooring about 5 times, for no longer than 5 days, but within a year was up for sale. The shine had faded super-quick, & I’m not talking about the paintwork. Since then it’s been abandoned & still hasn’t sold…

Meantime all the other expensive toys previous to the canal boat haven’t been for sale at all, neither do they get used. (Except for 2 cars). Hard to believe eh…? Storage costs & mooring fees must be costing a small fortune per year, meantime all this hardware loses value… Now that’s a bottomless pit if ever I heard of one…

Some people are hoarders, but that must be classed as “extreme hoarding” to say the least. And doesn’t make any sense at all…

In summary I could say it’s a cautionary tale, but if you can afford that lot without using most of it then good luck…!
