Meeting up with friends at the marina

Strange this, people talk about meeting up with fellow bloggers, fellow friends on the canal all the time. Thing is, I can also say the exact same thing happens on Mercia marina here. It’s so vast, friends are scattered about all over the place. Now what we could do would be to take the boat round & moor up on each other’s piers side on across the bows of the other boats. Or walk… Even so, it’s the equivalent of walking down the towpath to meet up with fellow boaters moored nearby…

What we’ve found here is that you don’t have to be on the same pier to be friends with other folks & go visiting. This is a new & very welcome phmon phno phenomenon to us. At the other marina it was like each pier was exclusive when it came to good friends, & never the twain shall meet except down the pub by chance! And we were a part of that too, arrangements to go out together in our little “clique” were always with our friends on the same pier. Call it exclusive, it was nothing deliberate, that’s just the way it worked. It wasn’t a problem, just different…

So yesterday afternoon we went round (on foot) to see Bruce & Sheila (nb Sanity Again), we had a good laugh & it was really nice to meet them properly. [They did pop round to see us a couple of weeks ago, but it had been a late night & I was still in me dressing gown] Hence we did the “raincheck” thing…

Then we went for a dumpout this aft, & they were just walking by as we moored up, so I gave them the guided tour of TT - while Dave did the erm “honours” outside. Afterwards I cleaned down the side of the boat – haven’t done it since she was on the back of a lorry. Disgraceful…

Tomorrow we’re going out for Sandayyy laanchon Sunday lunch with Steve & Lindsay (widebeam Jenique). They’re on the next pier behind us, just about 50 yards away. We talked about building a bridge across called “The Plank” but Steve came up with a better idea. “Let’s just club together & buy a dinghy.” Brilliant…

So at the end of a busy day: Here’s another sunset photo taken from the boat…

We're a few boats along G jetty from Bruce & Sheila - if we'd spotted you we'd have said hello, too! :-)

Hi Barry & Sue,

If I remember rightly I must've set off walking down the side of your boat whilst looking for "Sanity Again"!!!

I never got down far enough to see the name so please forgive. It was Dave who found Bruce & Sheila up the other end..

I dunno I'm a daft bat. We didn't just like to go knocking on your boat later on, so we walked the 10 miles back before it went dark lol.

See ya soon,

H
