They’ve started doing a Cafe Quiz (as opposed to the mandatory pub quiz) here at the marina, in the “Willow Tree” cafe. So we went with Sarah & Chris next door, team name? “The No Hopers” (as always) & what a great night. All the beer & wine is free, & there’s a buffet afterwards. Two plates of nibbles for every table, must cost a flippin’ fortune…!
It’s a much better setup (format?) than the pub quiz we used to go to at Rufford, which as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, we all thought was fixed. The same team won every week & the quiz master was their best friend. Bit obvious isn’t it? I would’ve been too embarrassed to go again once everyone started the booing thing. But they came back bold as brass every week. Still a dam good night out though – we just played to lose, so it didn’t really matter to us. [Although we still joined in with the expression of it being a set up…]
Anyway back to the cafe the quiz here, there’s a raffle afterwards, & if your ticket gets pulled out, they do a “Play your cards right” thing – remember Brucie? “Nothing for a pair, not in this game.” Get them all right & the prize money is around 90 quid. One of our tickets was pulled out so muggins here went to do the honours…
First of all you have to introduce yourself & say the name of your boat, {with a microphone} & everybody claps – oh boy did I sound Lanceeesheeer or what? Went through the whole lot of cards & right at the end said higher & it was lower, arrggghhhh!! So they keep on pulling tickets out till someone wins. Better than doing a roll over in the grand scheme of life…
I’ve had this post in draft for a couple of weeks now, it’s been a crappy day with some bad news. So we’re off out to the pub where there’s some kind of party on, to cheer ourselves up a bit…
Sometimes “one” needs to make the effort, & do something different to get things in perspective…
