The new marina complex – built already?

Didn’t they do well? I mean it’s only a couple of days ago the workmen moved in. I kid ye not, this is the scene today…

I tell ya, Bob the builder’s got nothing on this…

001

So the green & white structure on the left is obviously the powsh Lighthouse pub / restaurant, while the “all white” one on the right must be the shopping mall. And look, it’s even got a car park…

Well impressed…

Meanwhile back in the real world: We’ve come to the conclusion that rather than digging out pilings for a multi million pound complex. They were in fact boring holes in the ground for tent pegs, so they could anchor them down. Hence, they (the tents) wouldn’t be tempted to blast off take off if a howling gale weather front moved in. Well they covered all possible conditions, & there’s not a breath of wind here…

-------------------------------------

So what have we been up to today? Well we went to COMET & bought that new Samsung SMART TV we had a look at the other day. New set top box & a DAB radio. The latter has precisely nothing to do with anything else, but I’ve been pondering about getting one for ages – so while we were there… Anyway, back to the TV, there’s always a catch isn’t there?

In order to get full 1080HD we had to buy a “dedicated” HDMI cable, (another 30 quid). Apparently the one that comes with a set top box is only 720HD, which is a nice con for any TV manufacturer…

Then there’s the fact that being a SMART jobby means it’s internet enabled. BUT that needs a “dedicated” dongle (another 50 quid), to be fair though, it was the electrical dept manager who dealt with the buying process so:

a) He knew what he was talking about

b) He knocked 20 quid off the dongle

[Big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it’s the thought that counts]

So at present, I’m sat in the lux con here (out the way) while Dave’s doing all the setting up, I mean men love playing about with tech stuff don’t they? Till it goes tits up…

And sure enough, (another BUT) he’s just encountered a rather LARGE problem, “NO SIGNAL OR WEAK SIGNAL.” Being as the boat’s reverse layout, there’s a signal booster that appears not to be BOOSTING ENOUGH to the saloon for a clever TV…

So at this point:

a) We’re going to have to refit the entire boat to traditional layout.

b) Just let the TV sit there so it looks good, SMART & impressive to visitors.

c) Go out & buy a high end SMART signal booster, (another 100 quid).

d) Buy (another) new Arial & stick it up on a pole about 30 foot high.

OOPS: Just heard “Don’t know why I f*cking bother doing anything.”

Oh dear, must be bad, he’s just gone INSIDE the boat with a ciggy in his hand – not allowed…………….

TBC…

Greetings

When you have got all the new electronics sorted out, just mention in the blog how you get on with DAB radio, I got a Pure set after talking myself into it. The only Pure thing about it is that it is pure shite in almost every location along the cut, hardly any of these sets have a socket to take an external antenna
Nice to have you back to your old form

Hi bwp,

Nice to hear from you again now I'm back on form (thanks).

In todays blog post (18th) I've gone into the DAB problem. [That's after all the other probs] Still got no answers to it. But will let you know, I'm going to bring the darn thing outside to set up the channels & see if that works. (Tech tired at the mo).

I've mentioned in my blog post how Dave's personal DAB is badly affected by LED lights if they're on - what the??

When I tried to set mine up last night it acquired a very impressive number of channel, ie: ONE --- "The Asian Channel" Really couldn't make this stuff up & it's got a flippin ariel..

DABS: Dodgy And Bafflingly Stupid lol
