Do you find that now you’re living on a boat, life’s little niggles seem BIGGER than before…? Not in a bad way though, read on…
I guess it’s all to do with the quiet & placid lifestyle we’ve chosen, so this might sound confusing, but I’m sure you’ll understand. When we were part of the “rat race” things like “admin failure” with regards to anything that required it, were just something on the petty “To Do” list to sort…
For example, at the house a leaky gutter, or the alarm going off for no reason, or waiting for the cable man (because Dave was gardening, & dug through it by mistake). Working full-time, bringing kids up, these things were all par for the course to us, part of life in general. Along with a stressful job it was normal, even if in hindsight, (wonderful kids apart), it was like being a hamster on a wheel…
These days we find that even piddling hassle is stress. Thankfully there isn’t much to moan about at all. But even so, petty things that would’ve gone over our heads years ago actually get inside…
This is one of those very rare weeks, whereby for us a few piddling things have all happened at once. Sounds daft really, because when you get it all in perspective {DING} it’s nothing like before. Stress just doesn’t dominate anymore, so it’s almost alien. Even going to the hairdressers is like going to the dentist…
I suspect, sorry, know that having chosen this different lifestyle, we’ve got out of the habit of dealing with stress. So we have to find a different way of coping with the odd bit of crap that comes from elsewhere…
I’m not including the news about our crippled bow thruster in this at all, or any kind of boat maintenance. That’s par for the course, & accepted as so. There’s even a secret amount of satisfaction goes along with a boat problem being put right. Never had that with the house, you couldn’t sit back & think “oh well that’s working right now so we’re free…”
After juggling what seemed at the time like a million things with success, whilst living on a treadmill in bricks & mortar. That same stress factor equals about 10 things when you live on a boat. Hence why things that happen outside our control can almost seem magnified, to the point of being out of proportion…
But at our time of life (live up to being 50 H). Give us life aboard with those infrequent, comparatively small things to deal with any day. If any of our “kids” read this, (youngest is 28) it’s now I mean, not then…!
Why have I written about this today? I don’t know – will worry about it later. But hey, I don’t have to right…?

Me thinks you're overdue that holiday with Ryan :)
How's it going, any news yet if your son is going to have to come to the rescue of G4S or are you still on for your trip to Germany?
Oh thanks so much for asking Kevin,
We rang up Liam's wife last night to see if we'd have to sit here in tears & cancel our flights.
Turns out because he's on exercise for his next tour he can't be "used".
D Cameroony & co have no concern for other soldiers, "use 'em & fuck Em off with a P45 after the games." As is the case with some, like I've just said to someone else, this is simply the Olympics not a effin war! Where are they going to be then???
So Sorry, got carried away with a rant
H
I understand and agree with your views on the crappy way our armed forces are being treated. Your rant is justifiable and accepted, no problem and no need to apologise either.
On the up side then I guess it's good that Liam's on exercises because that means you're still on for your visit then?
Yes, can't wait!
So the UK will be guaranteed temperatures of 30 degrees plus while we're gone!
Mind you, summer temps over there are always high. So not to worry, except it'll start peeing down the moment we set foot in old blighty again lol

Hi Heth
I agree 100%. But what a nice enviroment to have those stress`s even though they indeed do seem magnified on a boat.
Les
Hi Jaq,
I think our stress tolerance levels go down & that explains it!
Hope Les is ok now, still following your travels :)
