After yesterdays blog post the phrase “Smoke & Mirrors” came to mind. (Don’t ask me why – I don’t know either). Over the years I’ve observed this term is most often used as a “redirect” for something we humans wouldn’t want others to notice. This trick can also be cleverly used by yourself, for yourself too. So I’ve come up with a mixed bag of examples:
- A beef burger can be smothered in fresh salad so it seems like healthy eating, but the fat content is still there.
- Then as a consequence of the above, clothing can be cleverly used to disguise any lumps & bumps.
- Peeling wallpaper can be hidden by hanging a picture (or a mirror) over it.
- For us women a spot on the face can be concealed with make up. (Only if it’s been popped first though).
- Photographs can be air brushed & wrinkles can be ironed out.
- A conversation about a true experience can be relayed as the perfect scenario. When in reality the story being shared was a complete disaster.
In other words by using Smoke & Mirrors we can hide reality so that things appear (near perfect) when they aren’t.
Note: With ref to yours truly here, the following photo may cause distress to those of a sensitive nature, in fact so might the one after it. {Children are exempt from Smoke & Mirrors, & causing distressful photos. Until they get to doing something more naughty than eating grandma’s breakfast}
This is me first thing in the morning, (the one on the left having me breakfast nabbed)
And this is me after I’ve put me slap on, (the one on the left raking sand so that another hand castle could be created). Hey, no air brushing required!
Smoke & Mirrors, who mentioned that…?

You look great in both pics Heth. I love the clam shell play thing for the g'kids. It is for them isn't it? ;)
Take care,
JaqXX
Oh Jaq, you're too kind! (tenner in the post)
Um, I have to admit my creative talent took me by surprise at the time. Every hand castle I made soon got hand slapped flat lol.
Great game till they got bored & moved into the playhouse, filling plastic cups with grass cuttings & squashed tomatoes!!
Hxx
