Hi folks,

Well it's definately worth joining the group now if you set yourself up on Farcebook (pet name).

Peter seems to be doing ok with the manifesto but I think it's an uphill struggle. He's slowly working his way through all the points on the group page. Now we've routed out the scumbags on there (sorry). People really seem to be contributing some good ideas now, but the way I read it is that there's nothing much we can do (oh the irony as boaters), except concentrate on improving the manifesto. Beyond that it's getting into the realms of politics & it appears we have no power. But like I said people are now throwing about positive fresh ideas.

Did you know the changeover date has been delayed till June? I knew April Fool's Day wasn't a good idea lol.

And that IWA & NABO are "clubbing together" to vote their own people in.

The only positive outcome from the delay is that maybe we get some more time to find a voice.

However, it's been said that it's inevitable it will be delayed again because there is no organisation...

Heth, Adagio doesn't do Facebook (yet!) so cannot join the group (at the mo). Do you know how many boaters' views Peter received when he drafted the manifesto?

I corresponded with Peter on Twitter about it but have stopped Tweeting since I got fed up with so many Tweeps posting ill-founded Tweets often based on flaky data/'facts'. I did not agree with some aspects of the manifesto but we live in a democracy so I was content to accept the majority view having been given the opportunity to express my opinion. It is good to see that CRT trustees have seen it and responded. A promising start. However, taking into account the endemic boater apathy out there and that many boaters seem only to want to moan about everything and do nothing to help themselves I wonder what real impact the manifesto will have on the CRT? That is why it is important to be able to prove the manifesto represents the views of a significant part of the boater constituency to fight of the gainsayers. (I believe there are some 35000 boats registered on BW waters which suggests there are significantly more boaters than that number!) Which takes me back to my original question, "What is the real level of support from boaters for the manifesto?"

A rather wordy comment I know but I am sure we will discuss face to face when we finally meet! :-)
